Makasi · Twelve Flames Tee No. 09
Strength that does not perform. The Makasi tee carries the flame of raw power: a wide ruby fire with two bold tongues, standing on a solid gold bar, because real force is grounded before it is seen. It is the piece for training days and hard seasons, for the ones who carry heavy things quietly and set them down without breaking. An embroidery-style print medallion in ruby red and gold on black, ringed in beadwork, with the word MAKASI on the banner and its line below: Raw Power.
What it means
Makasi means strong in Lingala; you will hear it wherever the language is spoken, said of arms, of hearts, of people who hold. In the album Kimuntu (Bana Bilaka World Sound), Flame No. 09 names raw power: the strength that exists before any audience, the kind you build in private and spend for your people. The gold bar under the flame is the ground it stands on. Word note: common Lingala usage; the twelve flames and their numbering are the creation of the album Kimuntu.
Part of Collection 04 · The Twelve Flames. Flame No. 09 · Raw Power. Twelve flames, named in Kikongo and Lingala: the states of being the album Kimuntu travels through.
