Before the velvet, the toghu thread was laid on ndop cloth: the first collars and sleeves were stitched onto the indigo. This piece marries the two heritages, the red and gold chevron of the toghu rising over the white and blue grammar of the ndop, the indigo cloth of the Grassfields, from the West to the North-West, recomposed for this emblem, never copied. Two cloths, one house. An embroidery-style print medallion in laterite red, medium indigo, warm gold and ivory on a deep black tee: the signature piece of the collection.

Avant le velours, le fil du toghu se posait sur l'étoffe ndop : les premiers cols et manches étaient cousus sur l'indigo. Cette pièce marie les deux héritages, le chevron rouge et or du toghu posé sur la grammaire blanche et bleue du ndop, l'étoffe indigo des Grassfields, de l'Ouest au Nord-Ouest, recomposée pour elle, jamais copiée. Deux étoffes, une seule maison. Un médaillon imprimé effet broderie, rouge latérite, indigo moyen, or chaud et ivoire sur tee noir profond : la pièce signature de la collection.

Ce que ça signifie / What it means

The ndop is the indigo cloth of the Cameroon Grassfields, shared from the West to the North-West by Bamileke, Bamum and Bamenda hands. Its white pattern is born of technique: the motif is sewn in raphia thread as a resist, the cloth travels to the indigo pits of Garoua for dyeing, and when the stitches are undone the pattern appears, white on blue. The band on this emblem follows that grammar, recomposed as an original pattern, never a copy of any documented cloth. Across it climb three toghu chevrons in laterite red and warm gold: the two great cloths of the Grassfields on one crest.

Le ndop est l'étoffe indigo des Grassfields du Cameroun, partagée de l'Ouest au Nord-Ouest par les mains bamiléké, bamoun et de Bamenda. Son motif blanc naît de la technique : le dessin est cousu en réserve au fil de raphia, l'étoffe voyage jusqu'aux fosses d'indigo de Garoua pour la teinture, et quand on défait les coutures le motif apparaît, blanc sur bleu. La bande de cet emblème suit cette grammaire, recomposée en motif original, jamais copiée d'un lé documenté. Trois chevrons toghu, rouge latérite et or chaud, la traversent en montant : les deux grandes étoffes des Grassfields sur un seul blason.
